K-ON!season 2 eps 9

Episode 9 brings another Yui-centric episode. At first it seemed like almost a carbon copy of yet another one of first season’s one-shots, but it actually turns into somewhat of a coming-of-age thing for Yui, displaying her selflessness and maturity. Good for her, I’d say. It may seem like a weird subject to go on considering we’re used to the lax lovable Yui, but it felt more real than surreal. It may have been for her elderly neighbor, but it’s nice to know that she’s never thinking about herself. As we’ve seen before, Yui actually does work hard when it comes to her guitar-playing, and she shows that off again. This time, she adds studying to the mix. Yeah, she wasn’t really focusing on it a lot beforehand (though her Azu-nyan doodle was hilarious), but she did it. Can you believe she studied for her finals, let alone passed them all with above average scores? Let’s not forget she was dozing for a bit during the exam with saving grace going to long-time friend Nodoka.
The whole thing about finals wasn’t even the point of this episode, though it’s not surprising that another episode title contradicts with what actually occurred in the episode. The focus was on Yui and her helping out Obaachan. I would not have mind if it was Yui alone, as she planned, but adding Azusa was pretty cool too, and in the end, she definitely could not have pulled it off without her as her fingers weren’t correspondent due to, I’m guessing, her finals. Gladly, “Fuwafuwa Time” was not used again, even if it were to be enka. It was a very nice surprise to go with “Fude Pen, Ball Pen” again, this time as the “YuiAzu version” which was slowed down and with Azusa on guitar and Yui on vocals. It’s just a shame that they didn’t get to even the build of the song. There was a time limit? Really? And that’s probably why they didn’t win in the end. Well at least the two got to do some manzai comedy for the old folks. BTW, Ui is pro for withstanding the heat without any headwear. Anyway, it was a genuinely nice episode that made Yui jump up in terms of an awesome person and makes us once again recognize her abilities.
