As I figured, this episode ties in with the last episode’s story. With Yui and the others off in Kyoto, we now get to see a day in the life of the Azu-nyan and friends. When the seniors are away the juniors come out to play. Feels good, don’t it? After the absence of Azusa from last time, this episode totally made up for it and then some. As this connects with the Kyoto trip, I was pleased to see that throughout the episode Yui and co. emails pics, hinting the little bits and pieces of the time of events that took place.
Probably the most impressive thing I’ve seen so far is Azuza’s flexibility in her fingers. I can only do a few steps for each of my two hands, but it does put a lot of strain on me. I never realized this aspect not coming from a musical background and all, but it’s a nice new thing to know.
The rest of the episode was merely just the adventures of Azusa, Ui, and Jun. Normally we don’t get much highlights on these characters, ‘sides Azusa (who looked too adorable the entire episode), due to their not being main characters, but after seeing this episode, it’s great that they’ve put a lot more Ui screentime for us. And surprisingly, Jun is a much greater character than I had thought beforehand. She comes across as slightly brash, but she’s got the fun side too. She’s like a blend of Ritsu’s and Mio’s personality.
In an interesting moment, the juniors decide to jam a bit to kill time and wait for the rain to stop. I figured with the Light Music Club on the trip there’d be no music playing, but they managed to pull it off. With the three girls playing instruments, it reminds me of the first episode of K-ON! (first season) when Mugi, Mio, and Ritsu played for Yui. Very calm and pacing. Ui’s such a talented person to be able to play guitar and the organ. Give her a pair of drumsticks and I’m sure she’s even more better than Ritsu. Why isn’t she in any club activities?! My favorite moment in this episode happens near the very end when Azusa gets a call from Yui. Watching this episode I was expecting this scene would be coming any time now so once it came I was satisfied. Azusa’s reaction was great. I thought the episode would end with just the juniors’ day going by, which would have been nice, but it’s also good that the stories for each side ended and then actually continued from where episode 4 left off. I thought they were giving Azusa something that was only available in Kyoto, like that banner. Well, the keychains were a nice touch at least. By the way, maybe it’s just the sub but how can you have jetlag when all of Japan runs on the same timezone? It looks like in the next episode, all three girls are accounted for along with our series regulars. No idea what’s up, but is it time for a live show yet? No? Too soon?
