The episode starts out with a rather familiar scene from the first season’s episode 1, and when I say “familiar scene” I really mean they just took the same footage and replaced the essence of school clubs with college instead. Admittedly, it’s pretty funny they pulled that, and it just reminds us all of how Yui is just not on the same level as everyone else. While the episode is ultimately about Yui’s reflecting on her future, we get some glimpses of young Yui, Nodoka, Mio, and Ritsu. From the moment Nodoka met Yui, they’ve been stuck to each other like glue, which can be a good thing or bad thing. But now that Yui’s found her light music club, she’s changed a bit and Nodoka’s glad to see that. Of course, this doesn’t do anything for Yui’s personality since it’s still the same as ever, but gosh darnit if she wasn’t cute as a button when she was a toddler and an elementary schooler.
We’ve seen a bit of Mio and Ritsu before and now there’s a little bit more exposure on their friendship which came into fruition thanks to the amazingly gifted young Ritsu. You know, the next time I’m standing in front of a class I’ll imagine everyone as pineapples… or potatoes. The girls’ pondering of Yui’s future career reminded me of a scene in Lucky Star where the Hiiragi sisters try to guess where Konata’s work is. Practically in the exact same execution and cutout to the next “what else.” Yui looked great in that work suit though. Too bad she’d probably get fired for being herself. I guess the moral of this episode is that one shouldn’t be worrying about your future, but the focus should be on the present, or something like that. I have no idea why Sawa-chan said no to the musician description (considering they really are good at playing their respective instruments). It’s no wonder she’s stuck as a single teacher. I’ll leave off with this wonderful moment of Mio’s and is probably the next best face ever:
