kzi_youkoI was beginning to like this episode for some time before the weird drama ensued between Ritsu and Mio. Personally, the execution was ridiculous and came out of nowhere. Honestly, I don’t think it was really Ritsu at fault at first because Mio was too busy being in awe of left-handed guitars, and then one thing led to another… A little jealousy from Ritsu from, I guess, having a good time with her other friends. I think the scene at the restaurant might’ve been a bit too much. Not exactly Ritsu’s best moment this episode. I’m not sure which side was supposed to look bad, but it was not very convincing to see Ritsu and Mio like this, considering they’ve been best friends since childhood. I almost wished this was all about Yui and her “Giita” woes because it’s just so silly how she didn’t know about changing strings, much less paying for repairs. If you ever need a water kettle, just call Yui. See that unintended witty remark from Yui to Sawa-chan? I love her way of “taking care” of her guitar. Honestly, she treasures it like a baby almost. God, I hope she didn’t feed it anything.
Thanks to Azu-nyan, they were at least getting somewhere for practice. Isn’t it funny how KyoAni actually animated their practice? Like, “Oh hey, we can do that if it’s only five seconds long!” I think here is where Ritsu started tuning out (pun intended?). Convenient that she got sick at the wrong time. While I wasn’t really fond of the situation, I was at least glad and rejoiced when Mio and Ritsu were alone and probably did stuff in Ritsu’s room. Well, no, but it was sweet for a BFF moment. BTW, “Afternoon Teatime” sounds incredibly lame, but it says a lot about the band, spending all afternoon first with Mugi-chan tea. I’m surprised and appalled to see that the series ends next episode. As I recall, this was supposed to be 13 episodes. Is the 13th gonna be a special episode/recap thingamajigger? The series also has seven DVD volumes on schedule so it seems a little peculiar. It doesn’t look like they can pull off another school festival concert like this, but we will see. I’m getting Lucky Star vibes again…
kzi_genelol @ the forced shitty teen drama. I have to agree with Youko on the execution. It was completely random and just felt awkward overall. I didn’t get the part where Ritsu was trying to pull away Mio and somehow she got angry. Then all of a sudden Ritsu develops this annoying jealousy when Mio wants to join Yui and Nodoka for tea. I don’t know whether the writers just wanted some character development going on or they just added drama for the sake of drama, but this really didn’t go well. A moefest should stick to its strong points and stay moe. Or at least get better scenario writers. The only thing I liked that came out of that ridiculous conundrum was the last scene where the two girls resolve their feelings. A very sweet scene that added a touch of depth to both of the girls. Overall, the character development was nice but the execution was poor.
I loved how Yui continued to bring the lulz in this episode. From the “deflowering” of her guitar, to the dressing up of her guitar, to Hirasawa Yui and the Weird Sisters, she managed to shine amongst the teen angst. I have to say the Weird Sisters sounds a lot better than Afternoon Teatime. I know it’s an all girl band, but come on. Not really a band you want people to see on your playlist.
