I should’ve known there would be a Kyoto episode. Well played, KyoAni, but you failed to show your own tiny studio like you did in Lucky Star, so you lose some points for that. But in all seriousness, this felt extremely like I was watching Lucky Star episode 21 (Pandora’s Box) again. Four girls and a class trip, taking the train Kyoto-bound. Speaking of just four girls, the absence of Azu-nyan was slightly disappointing, but thankfully she was not forgotten, especially by Yui. Considering that they are in Kyoto, I can’t blame Ritsu or Yui for having the time of their lives, though being this rowdy is nothing short of an annoyance as proven by Sawa-chan’s disturbance. I was expecting some “Mio is my waifu” plaques, but apparently the popularity of this show isn’t on that kind of surface, huh? Or, I guess since the K-ON! 4koma isn’t exactly a parody of things, it actually has to be on track most of the time.
Nothing band related in this episode whatsoever, but I expected as much since they’re on a field trip having fun. I think the pillow fight scene was definitely one of my favorite parts this episode though. I thought Mugi was the happiest a couple of episodes back, but she is just cheeky and adorable in a lot of these pillow fight shots. All hail fuwafuwa pillows. Sawa-chan gets hit and the girls are immediately “asleep.” Sawa-chan responds by stepping on Ritsu. Very hilarious and great execution of humor there. Another good execution of humor is during the scene where the girls are lost. Ritsu seemed like she was about to jump Nodoka until she says her group is lost too. The pavement sliding effect reminds me of Kannagi’s episode 3 when Jin sidesteps out of the way when Nagi runs towards him. I’m reminded of a lot of things, huh. Anyway, it was also funny because after that happened, you see Ritsu cleaning herself and Yui helping dusting off her clothes. Not a bad episode, really. I had a lot of laughs with this one, but I wonder when we’ll hear a new song still.
Next week, it’s all about the second years, Azusa, Ui, and Jun. Speaking of Ui, my god, she is just Yui’s twin. No wonder it was so easy to impersonate her back then. Yui, I demand you put your hair up once in a while too. I think what they’re trying to go for is an episode that takes place at the same time as this one. Sorta cool since I rarely ever see that in anime (save for Durarara!!), let alone TV (except that very awesome South Park episode with the party). Once Azu-nyan gets a call from Yui, my face will be full of glee.
